Giant Candyland Adventure

Project Overview

Designed and coordinated a large-scale Candyland-themed event for children and families that transformed the library into an interactive game world with themed activity stations, crafts, and a scavenger hunt experience.

Strategy & Planning

The program was developed entirely in-house and required extensive planning and coordination. I designed the event concept, organized multiple activity stations, and coordinated a team of teen volunteers who helped facilitate activities and guide families through the experience.

Program Experience

Participants explored imaginative areas such as the Gingerbread Forest and Lollipop Woods, created candy-themed crafts, completed a Candyland scavenger hunt for prizes, and took photos at a Candyland castle photo booth.

Impact

The event became one of the library’s largest family programs outside of Trick-or-Treat Fun at the Library Plaza and Take Your Child to the Library Day. It successfully engaged a large number of families while also providing leadership opportunities for teen volunteers.

Hands-On Ramadan: Crafts, Stories & Light

Project Overview

Developed and promoted a culturally inclusive Ramadan program at Danbury Public Library designed to introduce families to the traditions, crafts, and stories associated with the holiday. The program was created to expand the library’s cultural programming and strengthen relationships with local Muslim community members.

Opportunity Identified

After noticing that the library regularly hosted large celebrations for holidays such as Christmas and Diwali but did not yet offer a major Ramadan program, I identified an opportunity to create a more inclusive event that reflected the diversity of the community.

Strategy & Execution

I developed the program concept and marketing outreach campaign, which included:

  • Designing promotional flyers and event messaging

  • Promoting the event through digital channels and community networks

  • Engaging directly with families who regularly visit the library to encourage participation

  • Collaborating with community members who contributed cultural performances, henna activities, and shared cuisine

Because of established relationships with library families, several Muslim families approached me after seeing the flyer and offered to help shape the event, which expanded the program’s cultural authenticity and reach.

Impact

The event was well attended on a weekday evening and strengthened the library’s relationships with Muslim community members. It also expanded awareness of the library as an inclusive space for cultural programming and community engagement.

Skills Demonstrated

  • Community outreach and engagement

  • Mission-aligned marketing and program promotion

  • Event campaign development

  • Cultural programming and partnership building

Trick-or-Treat Fun at the Library Plaza

Project Overview

Developed and promoted a Halloween community event designed to connect families already participating in downtown seasonal activities with the library. The program introduced new audiences to library resources while providing a festive and welcoming experience for children and families.

Opportunity Identified

Recognizing that many families were already gathering downtown for fall events, I identified an opportunity for the library to participate in the seasonal atmosphere and attract both regular visitors and first-time users.

Strategy & Communication

I presented the event concept to library leadership as a program that would complement existing city activities while highlighting the library as an active community space.

Because Danbury is a highly diverse community—including Spanish-speaking families and families from Southeast Asia—I regularly tailor messaging and program framing to ensure materials are welcoming and accessible to a broad audience.

This included:

  • Creating promotional messaging and program descriptions

  • Communicating with families, educators, vendors, and community partners

  • Framing the program in ways that resonate with diverse audiences

  • Positioning the event as both a festive experience and an introduction to library resources

Program Experience

The Library Plaza transformed into a vibrant Halloween stop for trick-or-treaters, featuring festive decorations, themed music, a Halloween photo booth, and a welcoming trick-or-treat station for families.

Impact

This program helped expand outreach by connecting with families already visiting downtown and encouraged new audiences to engage with library programming.

Skills Demonstrated

  • Community outreach and engagement

  • Marketing and event promotion

  • Audience-focused messaging

  • Stakeholder communication

  • Program development and strategy
